When buying a new shirt, perhaps the most important
thing to consider is fit. Fit is certainly a matter of comfort – nobody wants
breathing to be a struggle, or to feel like they are wearing a parachute – but
it is also, more importantly, a matter of style. A shirt with the right fit
looks best, and is the only way to truly experience the full effect of the fine
fabrics and premiere craftsmanship that Ike Behar is known for.
Finding the right fitting shirt begins with finding the
right size. Men come in more than three sizes, and as such it is important to
find a shirt that wasn’t made for the average small, medium, or large man. Ike Behar, like many fine dress shirt
manufacturers, lists sizes as a series of two numbers (ex. 15.5 / 34), the
first number being neck size and the second being sleeve length. This is why,
in order to find the best fitting shirt possible you must find your precise
measurements. (Remember: the collar should fit tightly enough so that it does
not droop or sag and loosely enough to fit an index finger between the neck and
collar, while the sleeve should fall just bellow the wrist). Once you have
found the proper size, you can start to determine what style of fit is best for
you.
The specific fit of any given shirt is dictated by its fit
style or cut. In addition to the traditional classic fit, Ike Behar produces
both tailored and trim fits to ensure that all of our customers can find a
shirt that matches both their body types or personal preferences. The
traditional or classic fitting shirt was, as the name implies, the standard fit
for many years, and, as compared to the tailored or trim fit shirt, is slightly
roomier in the chest, torso and sleeves, with a boxier cut. Classic fit shirts
are often ideal for those with larger body types, but it is also a matter of
personal preference. In recent years, both tailored and trim fit shirts have
become increasingly popular. Both tailored and trim fit shirts have a cut that
is slightly more rounded than boxy, and as a result hugs the torso more than
the classic fit. Both tailored and trim shirts also have higher sleeves, which
allow for a wider range of motion with less fabric. The main difference between
the tailored and trim cuts is the degree of the cut; the trim fit will contour
to the wearers body more than the other styles of fit, while the tailored fit
will contour to the wearer’s body more so than the classic fit, but less so
than the trim fit. While many assume that tailored or trim fit shirts are
intended solely for smaller or thinner men, this is not necessarily the case; As
I’ve said before, choosing a style of cut has a lot to do with personal
preference, so finding the best one for you will ultimately come down to
choice.
At Ike Behar we understand that the right fit can make a
shirt. That is why we strive to ensure that our customers, no matter what their
size, are able to find a shirt that perfectly compliments both their size and
style. Try one of our classic, tailored, or trim fit shirts today, available at Ikebehar.com.
